Even though NYS passed a 2% tax cap on property taxes this year, a town can pass a budget that calls for an increase in excess of that, if it passes with a supermajority of the votes of 60%.
If you want no cuts, you can just raise taxes to pay for everything.

To this i say, no thanks. I looked over my tax bill and my SCHOOL TAX line item only has increased 50% on a cash basis over the last 4 years (since 2008), and 32% on a School Tax Only - School Tax Rate, which is a rate based on each $100 of assessed value.
ReplyDeleteThe rate has gone from $397/$100 of assessed value in 2008 to $525/$100 of assessed value for 2012. To me that means if your house has not changed in assessed value since 2008 you should be paying at least 32% more in cash for 2012.
I don't think the rate is sustainable. Oh, by the way, we have been cutting programs at the school. Obviously I am missing something, so i look to you for help....
